LILI G coming along great!

We are going gangbusters on the new 12-14 yrs LILI G series, starting with the first book, LILI G AND THE SECRET VAMPIRES.

The story is, of course, about Liliana Gunnarsson, going by the alias Lili Gatto. She attends Max's former school, along with her best friends, the Williams twins.

You know, any book about a kid with magical abilities going to school is immediately going to be compared to the most successful series of all time - Harry Potter. That is completely logical. Everything in Lili's books is consistent with COMG mythology. Just to be amusing, here are some of the similarities and differences. Just so you know, these are only the things they have in common. Lili is a much more complex character (she is an immortal lycan and mezzo angel, after all).

1) Individual skills.
Lili and Harry Potter have innate magical skills - they were born with the ability. However, Lili's magic is much more powerful than Potter's. Plus she doesn't need a wand. In Lili's universe, wands are called "magic enabled objects" which let non-magical folk do limited magic stuff. Further, Lili was also born a lycan, and was later "enhanced" by her great-grandfather Draagh, making her a mezzo (middle) angel. Lili has excellent night vision, as well as an incredible sense of scent and touch. Lili also has a view in her peripheral vision, enabling her to not only gauge her available skills levels, but her strength, health and stamina. She can also, since being enhanced, determine one's race/subspecies, health, intent, and detect any magical objects or cantuses around her.

2) School.
Both kids go to school, but where Harry goes to a boarding school in a secret castle, Lili goes to a private day school near her home.

3) Orphans.
Both were orphans. Potter's parents were killed by Voldemort, while Lili's biological parents killed each other during a full moon while in their werewolf form. Potter was raised by his shitty aunt and uncle, while Lili was adopted by Max and Jennie after living most of her life in castle hallways, scrounging for food and occasionally eating rats to survive. So in this aspect, they are quite different.

4) Lifespan.
Harry has a normal human lifespan (as far as we know). Lili is immortal (being an angel).

5) Enemies.
Potter's enemies are mostly in Slitheryn House, as well as dark wizards following Voldemort. Lili's are the alien Vrol, all vampires (except in alt. Hollywood), the Grigori (fallen archangels) and certain snotty students at her school.

6) Science.
In Potter's world, science plays a very small role. There is even a department of "muggle studies", helping magic folk to understand modern society in the Potter series. In Lili's everything is science. In fact, magic is as science (subatomic nanobots) and is billions of years old. The  Prīmulī understand science more than humans do. The amount of science and futuristic technology is what lends the COMG series to be scifi/fantasy, as opposed to simply fantasy.

7) Teleportation.
Potter could "apparate", while Lili can "slip". However, Potter's apparitions appear to only be local, while Lili can go anywhere in the world. Also, when Lili reaches maturity she will be able to traverse space/time, going anywhere in the universe and/or history.

8) Transportation.
No one flies brooms in Lili's universe. No one has magic to fly through the air without the aid of something like a broom (or Ron's car) in Potter's. In the Harry Potter universe there is a network of fireplaces people can use much like the subway. In Lili's world, the Prīmulī perform 3D and 4D slips, using the HUB (the place between space/time) as a transition point. We think the fireplace thing is groovy.

9) Sports.
In Potter's universe they play a flying-broom-based game called "quiddich". We personally think this is cool. However, Lili lives on a world where the most popular sport is futbol (soccer). Harry is the "seeker" on his quiddich team. Lili is not allowed to participate in sports, as she would potentially reveal her superior strength and athletic skills.

10) Society.
Potter lives most of the year in a secret society of wizards and witches, only returning to the land of "muggles" during the summer. Lili does't go off to a secret, hidden world. She walks to school everyday. In her world there are ancient, enhanced subspecies, long-ago deactivated, but 98% of the population are called "normals". In the Vrol War some inactive lycans are activated, and this becomes public knowledge. The government has passed a law (pushed by inactive vampire politicians, which could be compared to dark wizards, but without magical skills - they're just assholes).

11) Invisibility.
Harry had a "cloak of invisibility". Lili can simply make herself invisible, as well as mask her scent, on command.

12) Magical Commands.
Potter's world calls them "spells" and "charms". Lili's world calls them "cantuses" (sing. cantus). No idea what language Rowling used for the Potter spells, but cantuses are in Latin.

13) Friends.
Harry's two best friends are Ron Weasley and Hermione Granger. The two end up getting married, with Harry marrying Ron's little sister. Lili's best friends are fraternal twins Tommy and Janie Williams, who are native Alaskan Indians (Haidas), as well as lycans, from an alternate timeline on Earth.

14) World.
Harry lives of Earth. Lili was born on Earth, but lives on Azul.

15) Year.
From what we can determine, Harry's adventures happened in the 1990's. Lili was born on Earth, in the 43rd century, but lives on Azul in the 29th century (time travel can be fun). Her adventures started in the 43rd century, and then went back and forth between the 29th and the 43rd.

16) Pets.
Harry has a white owl. That was pretty cool. Lili has ultra-intelligent, genetically-modified, fresh-water great white sharks. And she feeds captured vampires to them.

17) Speech.
Harry speaks perfectly normal British English. Lili's first language is German, but she is completely fluent in an archaic form of English, sometimes called "Shakespearean" by people. It's really not  - they just don't know how else to describe it in the 29th century,

18) Behavior.
Harry had a penchant for getting into trouble, but while investigating things. Overall he is a nice boy. Lili does pretty much the same, but can be downright brutal and doesn't screw around. She grew up in a violent world of warring lycans and vampires, and her family slowly tries to civilize her. Further, while Harry tries to increase and develop his magical skills, Lili has a cap on hers, being as they are so massively destructive.
